About Squannacook River Runners
Do you or someone in your family like to run? The Squannacook River Runners (SqRR) is a small club of 100 members or so who reside in Groton and surrounding towns. We're a social, not-overly-competitive club made up of people with diverse backgrounds and running abilities, but who are bound together by a passion for running. We don't promise serious coaching or a new 10K PR, just good camaraderie, new acquaintances, and lively conversation during our runs.
When we’re not out running the local roads and trails, we’re busy organizing and hosting the annual Groton Road Race – one of the largest and most popular races in New England. Since the race’s inception in 1992, we’ve donated tens of thousands of dollars to national and local charities – including scholarships for area high school students and sponsorship of Groton's summer children’s track & field program.
Club Highlights:
- Group runs depart every Sunday morning year-round from Groton Town Hall. Start time at 9 a.m. during the winter months and 8 a.m. during the warmer months.
- Wednesday night runs:
- Spring/Summer/Early Fall: “Outback” runs depart from the rail trail entrance at the end of Station Ave., Groton. Start time varies depending on available sunlight.
- Winter: Indoor track runs at the Groton School gym. Start time at 7 p.m.
- Quarterly club newsletter
- Free entries into classic New England running events such as Mill Cities Relay and Lake Winnipesaukee Relay
- Sponsors of the Groton Youth Summer Track & Field Program and the Hershey Track & Field Clinic.
- Strong supporters of local XC and T&F high school teams
- Hosts and organizers of the Groton Road Race every April
