BY-LAWS OF

THE SQUANNACOOK RIVER RUNNERS RUNNING CLUB

OF GROTON, MA.

Article 1 Name

The name of this organization shall be the "Squannacook River Runner's Club of Groton Ma."

Article 2 Objectives

The Squannacook River Runner's Club shall be organized as a non-profit corporation in Ma with the following objectives:

  1. To promote cross-country, road and track running for all ages in Groton and surrounding areas
  2. To provide activities which further the running ability of the members of the club.
  3. To organize the annual Groton 10K/2K/Tots Trot Road Race and as a result provide financial assistance to the town of Groton and the public school as well as any other worthwhile local organizations.
  4. To sponsor youth running in the town and local school by means of a Summer Track and Field program (mid June-end August) for grades K - 12 in Groton and surrounding areas.

Article 3 Membership

All residents of Groton and surrounding towns, having paid their annual dues, are eligible for membership in the club.

Article 4 Dues

Annual membership dues are $10 per member or $25 per family.

Article 5 Officers

  1. President
    The president shall be elected and responsible for promoting the objectives of the SqRR.

    The president is also responsible for calling regular meetings of the SqRR and appointing any committees which are deemed necessary to further the objectives.

  2. Director
    The director shall be elected and shall be responsible for overseeing the By-laws of the club. In addition, shall act as liaison officer between the SRRC and any other town organizations.

  3. Vice-Presidents
    The vice-presidents shall be elected and shall be responsible for the racing programs and administration of the SqRR. In addition they shall act as backups to the president and director when deemed necessary.

  4. Secretary/Treasurer
    The secretary/Treasurer shall be elected and responsible for registrations and memberships, as well as the newsletter.

  5. Running/Training Consultants
    The Running consultants shall be elected and responsible for gathering and distribution of running and training information (including individual programs) for all members.

  6. Special Committee
    Special Committees shall be appointed by the President and Director and approved by a quorum of elected officials which shall designate their powers and the term of appointment.

Article 6 Activities

  1. Race Program
    As well as organizing the annual Groton Road Race, the SqRR shall promote a running program that encourages participation in at least 6 local road/cross-country races annually. In addition, the club shall work with the local schools (public and private) in encouraging a higher level of participation in all aspects of running.

  2. Sponsorship
    The SqRR is responsible for sponsoring the Summer Track and Field Program in Groton and aid in the purchase of Track and Field Equipment for the use of this program and for the Groton-Dunstable Regional Schools Sports Programs.

  3. Annual Road Race
    The SqRR is responsible as the prime motivator behind the Groton Road Race. It will establish an annual Road Race Committee, which in turn will establish the appropriate number of sub-committees. The Road Race committee will be comprised of at least 50% SqRR members, the others coming from the town or running community. The SqRR will control the finances of the road race.

  4. Newsletter
    The secretary shall publish a newsletter six times per year. The newsletter shall be distributed to all active members and shall contain information deemed to be in the interest of the objectives of the SqRR. Input from all members of the SqRR shall be encouraged and expected.

  5. Affiliations
    The club shall maintain a membership in the USATF as well as the RRCA. The club is also linked to the town of Groton through Groton Recreation. The club shall maintain its status as a non-profit corporation registered in Massachusetts.

Article 7 Amendments

The By-laws may be amended by a majority vote of the members at a special meeting called by the elected officials.

Article 8 Dissolving

In the event of the dissolution of the club, the funds in the treasury, after all creditors have been paid, shall go to other valid 501C3 non-profit organizations.

Article 9 Rules of Order

Robert's Rules of order shall be the parliamentary authority for the matters of procedure not specifically covered.
