Bar Harbor 1/2 Marathon - September 16, 2006

Contributed by Mark Graf

Four of your fellow Fishies ventured to Bar Harbor, ME this past weekend to run the 29th Annual Bar Harbor Half-Marathon. This is a story of steadfast determination...

Specifically: Instead of trying to be fast, we came to the determination that we would run at a more leisurely pace, enjoy ourselves, and take in the scenery.

And that's exactly what we did. No PRs this weekend. Just steadfast determination. You can see it in our faces in the pre-race photo.

Nice, huh?

The only one of us adequately trained, really, was Sue H. But she and her bike lost a battle with a stationary object two weeks ago. (With a tree, to be exact.) She listened to the signals coming from her knee (it's called "pain") and decided not to push it to the point of destruction.

The rest of us... Well... Let's just say we really enjoyed the scenery. And the cold brews that were waiting for us at the Finish... That was a nice touch! (Thanks, Dave!)

The Bar Harbor course is, without a doubt, one of the prettiest Half-Marathons ever conceived. Well worth the drive. The four of us all said we'll run it again, probably in '08. And next time we'll train, and avoid Close Encounters of the Arboreal Kind.
