Hynes 5 Mile Road Race- March 9, 2008

Contributed by Mark Graf

Did everyone enjoy the extra hour of daylight today?  (Even if it cost you an hour's sleep last night?)

How about the wind?

Ing & Charlie Thaxter, Razia Shoyeb, Anthony Mavilia and I represented the SqRR at today's Race of the Month, the Hynes 5-Mile Road Race in Lowell.  The lost hour of sleep didn't affect us nearly as much as the blustery wind that buffeted us around.

You know how it is...  No matter which direction you're running, it never seems to be at your back.  (Despite the Irish Blessing.)  Why is that?

No matter.  We all got that ruddy, healthy-looking windburned look.  ;-)

And we all brought home a medal.  More accurately, a part of a medal.  The Hynes 5-Miler was the third part of a three-part "Pub Series" called The Wild Rover Series.  If we had run the first two races, we would have received medals there too, and the three medals are designed to clip together to form one beautiful, unified whole.

Really!  I'm not kidding.  Look here.  Neat, huh?

This is a race you might want to put on your calendar for next year:  It's not far away, it's well-organized, it features a relatively flat (albeit not particulary scenic) route, and it's festive.  With free beer.  It is a pub race, after all.  But don't you agree that Guinness would be a better offering than Coors Light for an Irish-themed event?  Ah, hell...  Who's complaining?
